I feel a change in the air...

It is October. Once again the air has that familiar crispness. The leaves are bursting with all the lovely yellows, golds, oranges and reds. The sky has been more blue than I knew it could be. And we are preparing for a visit from Ema.

She will be landing in Asheville at 1:59 today. We are just about done with all the last minute preparations. Natalie has been talking about Ema coming for the last week and when we say Ema will be sleeping in Nathan's room, she asks, "Why?"

Mom has done a great job planning the menus and even the places we want to show Ema.

We plan on taking her to see parts of Downtown Asheville, the Grove Park Inn and Car Museum, Cataloochee valley, a beautiful back road in Leicester, and up on the parkway for a hike. Last year when we went up on the parkway for a hike, we found snow! I hope it will not be snowing this time and we can enjoy a brisk hike. Hopefully, we won't run into any bears preparing for hibernation.

Nathan's 15th birthday (I can't believe it) is on the 23rd, so we will also be celebrating his birthday while she's here. He wants fried chicken and Gooney Bird Pie. Friends of ours, the Lavoie's, raise chickens for meat and eggs. We got a chicken from them. This will be a first for us, having a fresh, home-grown chicken. And yes, I will be eating it and enjoying it : )

I plan on getting as much information as I can from Ema about her family and my grandpa's family. I have tried looking up the names I remembered, but didn't get anywhere. Genealogical research is harder than I thought.

I will take plenty of pictures and be back later to tell all about her visit.
