What we've been up to...

...is not blogging. *tee-hee* That's for sure.

Anyway. This is from our trip to Columbia way back in February.

We went for mainly one purpose, but fulfilled many.

We got to visit with my mom's mother, Guh. She is in the late stages of Alzheimer's and mom has made it a point for us to drive down once a month to visit her.
She often will wake up when we get there, and when we start singing or talking to her, she will make eye contact, smile and even try to talk. It's beautiful.

In the rental car on the drive down.

This time Peggy got to come with us. And it was her birthday, so we had a little celebration for her.

We love getting to visit with Karen and Tony!

Tony frying up some fish that he and Karen caught! Yum!

The gifts for Peggy.

Peggy's traditional Strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream.
It could double as a Valentines day cake.

Getting the table set.

Oh! Makes my mouth water even now!

Peggy waiting for the fish!

The table was decorated perfectly.

I think Peggy was glad to be able to celebrate with us.

Natalie-Rose just loves her Uncle Tony!

We also got to meet one of our cousins, Kristin. Her great-grandmother and my grandmother were sisters...you figure it out if you want.
She is going to school there in Columbia. Natalie really enjoyed her too!

Sitting on the back porch, reading old letters.

  1. You are second cousins once removed with Kristin.

I've had a mild interest in family history / genealogy, as a somewhat natural outgrowth of my overall interest in history. (I hope it's evident by now that I'm not one of those people who is obsessed with it, though!)

And, as proof of my assertion that I'm not obsessed with it, I did have to pull out a paper and work it out - I didn't just get it off the top of my head.
